Packing for the weather
December in Bogotá tends to be cool and often overcast. Daily highs hover around 19°C (67°F), while nighttime lows can dip to about 6 °C (43°F). Although December marks the start of the drier season, rain remains possible.
For those traveling from out of town, we recommend packing:
- A lightweight, waterproof jacket
- Warm mid-layers such as sweaters or fleeces
- Trousers (no shorts; you will stand out)
- Comfortable, water-resistant sneakers
- Check the dress-code section for the ceremony
Staying safe
In Colombia we say, “no des papaya,” which means “don’t tempt trouble.” Our advice is to not call unnecessary attention to yourself. For a worry-free visit, we recommend:
Keeping it low-key
Wear understated clothing and avoid flashy jewellery or accessories when you’re out and about.
Stay aware of your devices
Keep your phone tucked away; avoid using it visibly on the street.
Choose vetted transport
Always book a ride Uber or ask your hotel or restaurant to call a trusted taxi for you—avoid flagging down random cabs.
Check the where to stay section for our advice on the most walkable areas in the city.
